Hacking course offered at Scottish university
There is a new course on the horizon at a Scottish university - a hacking course. Yes, the University of Abertay in Dundee is responding to the vast demand for IT experts by offering a Bachelor of Science degree in what it refers to as "Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures", which is set to start in October.
The course is designed to take 30 students and show them how to stop hacking attacks as well as how to perform them.
The justification for showing people how to hack us that police detectives need to know how thieves steal and by the same token computer administrators need to know how cyber criminals attack. According to the university, there is a large demand for people who can actually test the safety and security of PC networks, especially in the insurance and banking world.
"There are an increasing number of compliance regulations and insurance policies that insist businesses carry out security checks on their networks," says a spokesperson for the institution.
To combat any fears the university insists that it does a thorough check on all the students that are enrolled in the course. Apparently, the students will also be watched carefully during the degree. While IT companies such as the Training Camp have been doing courses that cover much of the material in this course, this degree is thought to be the very first in which the primary focus is hacking.
