WoTrust, China's leading information security service provider has chosen thawte to be its new partner in providing leading digital certificates and trusted services to its Chinese market.

"Our decision to choose thawte as our preferred partner was really for two reasons," commented Richard Wang, WoTrust CEO.

"Firstly, thawte accepts Chinese business licenses as proof documents in their verification processes.

“It's very important in our market because many Chinese companies don't have English names in their business license, which creates an inconvenience when English version proof documents are requested."

The second reason given for WoTrust's switch was that thawte could provide the company with uniquely platform independent Code Signing Certificates, something WoTrust's previous partner lacked.

Code Signing certificates such as those sold by thawte are becoming increasingly important amongst application developers, many of whom are located in Asian countries, to verify the authenticity of their applications.

Many mobile devices now encourage users to check applications before allowing them to install any applications onto their devices - and China offers a market that already boasts over 400 million mobile subscribers.

Other uses include signing digital code such as ActiveX, Macros, MIDlet (J2ME) and Java Applets for secure electronic distribution over the internet.

"thawte's Code Signing Certificates don’t require any root certificate upgrades for Windows users, as is the case for our previous partner’s code signing certificates," added Wang.

Through this partnership WoTrust will be able to offer its Chinese customers a range of thawte products that include thawte's stringent identity assurance SSL certificates, SSL Web Server and SGC SuperCerts, as well as SSL123, thawte's domain validated SSL offering.
